Line four · SACE consultancy for security agencies

One component missing fails the competency. That is the whole job.

A licensed security agency carries a training obligation that is checked in the assessor's own words: “conducted at least twice annually”, every component present, and “attendance records” to show it. The file is not judged on effort. It is judged on whether every sentence of the criterion has an answer, and one “No” is enough to fail it.

What the criterion actually asks for

Quoted in its own words, because a paraphrase is what fails.

The training areas

“Handle Security Incidents and Services” · “Provide Guard and Patrol Services” · “Recognise Terrorist Threats”

Aviation-only additional areas: “Access Control” and “Security Screening”. A near-miss on a title — a shortened name, a singular where the criterion is plural — reads as a different course, so the titles are copied, never retyped.

The components

“Training Development” · “Training Delivery” · “Training Assessment” · “Training Analysis”

“All components must be present” — a single No fails the competency. Analysis is the one most often missing altogether, and it is not a summary: it is what the results of the assessment told you and what you changed because of it.

The two periods, and the count that surprises agencies

Two periods, all three courses

Each of the two annual training periods carries all three courses — not one course per period. Two periods × three courses = six course runs a year, per agency.

Period one lists everybody

The first period records every officer on the roll, including anyone who has since left. Nothing on that list says “resigned” or “not with the company” — that indication does not belong there.

Period two is where leavers show

The second period is the only one that indicates someone has left the company, and a leaver cannot be recorded in it. Every period still carries all three courses.

How we build the file

1. The criterion is read at the source, for that licence year

Not from last year's pack and not from memory. The checklist for the effective date is read and quoted, module by module, before anything is written.

2. Every sentence gets an answer, and nothing else is added

Nothing missing from the criterion, and nothing added to it. No reconciliation narratives, no explanations of who left and when, no samples of test questions, no UEN, no signature blocks. The document holds the criterion and the evidence of it.

3. The records are kept as the work happens

Dates, attendance per officer per course, the assessment and the analysis, entered when the session runs rather than reconstructed at the end of the year. Dates only — the criterion asks for attendance records, never times of day.

4. The file is checked against the criterion before it goes anywhere

Every quoted sentence compared with the checklist word for word, and the built document read back and searched for the things that must not be in it. A clean check is the proof; “we used the right words” is not.

What we will not do, and why it protects you

We never concede a gap to an assessor

A record that is missing is chased from your side until it exists. It is never written into a document as “not available” or “not kept” — one sentence like that can cost a licence, and it is never ours to write.

We do not put a signature where nobody signs

No signature line and no “signed by” field. If a blank belongs to your agency, it stays blank and comes to you.

The assessor decides

We prepare the file to the criterion and show you what is asked for. The judgement on the day is theirs, and we will not pretend otherwise to win the work.

If an assessor is coming, that is the day to ask

Tell us the licence year, the number of officers and the period you are in. You will get a straight answer about what the file needs — and if it is already in order, that is the answer.

The grant note

Every scheme, and what changed since the last note.

One email a week at most: what the government is offering an SME this month, which schemes have closed, and the one thing to check before you spend — in the order that keeps the claim valid. No pitch, and nothing about our own fees.

Your address is kept for this note only. We record the date, and the exact words you agreed to.
